There are several links in this post that are full of excellent tips and tricks for the Guardian - I'm making a hybrid of the Lyssa build and the build from the post he links to in the beginning of his discussion

I substitute a Hammer for the Greatsword and more often than not use a scepter/focus instead of a staff. I carry the Staff and the Greatsword and do use them occasionally but just like play with the others better overall.
